Wow! What a great summer I've had! I was very fortunate to get to play a lot of guitar and meet some amazing new friends. As I said in my last update, at the beginning of the summer I became a sponsored artist of Savage Classical Guitar and received a fantastic Kenny Hill "Signature" guitar. So what does a person do when such a wonderful thing has happened to them? PLAY! -I spent the summer playing at a great winery on Long Island called Clovis Point and met some very supportive people there! -I then saw a fellow guitarist request some help on setting up some benefit shows. Rene Izquierdo and his wife Elina Chekan are both amazing guitarists and musicians, and we got together to set up two benefit concerts (one in Manhattan at ZEB's, and one on Long Island at The Boulton Center for the Performing Arts). These concerts were held in support of Cuban cellist Ana Bermudez and her family. Also involved in the show was young guitarist Jonathan Bodian, and of course, Rich from Savage Classical Guitar as our main sponsor! It was hugely inspiring to work with such talented musicians, and for a great cause! -My wife and I had to opportunity to perform at the 1st Annual Lake George Classical Music Festival. I played some solo guitar music, and my wife and I as The Miriam Duo performed Mauro Giuliani's "Grand Duo Concertant Op. 85". -I did a solo recital and master class for Jay St. Music in Schenectady, NY. It was great to see some old friends and hear some young players who were excited about classical guitar music! So what's next? Starting this September I will be doing my student teaching internship to complete my NYS Teacher Certification in Music. I have been teaching privately for more years than I can count, and always planned on taking my teaching to a higher level, so that time has come! So between September and December I will be flying under the radar for the most part (possibly a little gig here and there). In early 2012 I will begin recording 3 separate new projects. 1st will be a new solo album of Spanish music with selections from Rodrigo, Albeniz, Llobet, Asencio, and Tarrega. 2nd will be an album with The Miriam Duo of Paganini, Giuliani, and Schubert. 3rd will be an album with soprano Holly MacCormack of music by Argento, Britten, and Leisner. VERY EXCITING! Lastly, I am also preparing to enter in the 2012 Guitar Foundation of America Competition. Hey, ya never know! So thank you to everyone who came out to my concerts, and to all of my new friends! You are all the best!
