About my teaching

For me, teaching has been an honor and privilege. Currently I am an the Professor of Classical Guitar at Suffolk Community College, the Stony Brook School, The Great Neck Conservatry, and the Music Institute of Long Island. I also have an active studio of guitar and theory students, and conduct lessons in my home studio. Lessons are 60-minutes. If you are interested is a different lesson length I would be happy to discuss it with you. All clients have the option of paying per month or per week by either cash, check, or credit card. Please contact me for pricing. For scheduling. when we decide on a day and time for your lesson it is yours for as long as you like. I understand that schedules change throughout the year, therefor I do my best to be flexible. I request that if a student needs to reschedule a lesson that they contact me at least 24-hours in advance to ensure that I find them a suitable alternate lesson day/time. For cancellations I prefer to keep things as simple as possible. I understand that on occasion things will happen at the last minute and a lesson will need to be cancelled. If for any reason I need to cancel a lesson, I will be sure to do so as early as possible. There is no charge for lessons cancelled 24-hours in advance of the scheduled lesson time. All clients/students are allowed 2 (two) un-charged last minute cancellations per year. Beyond that, I ask that cancellations made within 24-hours be paid for. Although the majority of my private students study classical guitar, I believe it is important to learn many aspects and skills that are expected of a fine guitarist. I make sure all my students understand the basics of improvisation, composition, and feel comfortable reading musical notation, tablature, and lead sheets. I do require all students to purchase their own quality guitar and other materials, I can make recommendations for where to buy guitars if necessary. I have a considerable library of classical guitar music and provide photocopies for free when appropriate to do so. For NYSSMA Students, it is a requirement that 2 (two) original copies of the music being performed are purchased before going to the scheduled NYSSMA date. If there are questions or concerns about this I will be happy to discuss those with you. I can be contacted via email at chris@chrisgotzenberg.com or cell phone 516-662-4268
